How Can fever Along With Nasal Congestion Be Treated?

My symptoms started 5 days ago with fever, which broke that night and led to sinus congestion for two days. Mucus from nose and throat. I expelled two large mucus plugs from sinuses and congestion seemed to go away. Yesterday my throat became sore, hoarse voice, but no cough or noticeable congestion. Today, I have no voice whatsoever, and terrible pain in my throat. I was taking Mucinex D until congestion cleared and then switched to regular Mucinex today thinking maybe I had some sort of chest congestion causing this. I'm not having any trouble breathing, and haven't started coughing or expelling mucus as I expected after three Mucinex. What could be wrong? I don't have spots in my throat and my tonsils don't look overly swollen.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for trusting healthcaramgic!

The symptoms are suggestive of acute sinusitis( inflammation of paranasal sinuses),No need to worry as it is highly curable with timely treatment.
I suggest you to consult a general practitioner and get the following things done:-

(1)- Acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain.
(2)-You have to start on a short course of antibiotics like amoxicillin or levofloxacin for minimum of five days.
(3)-Antihistamines like cetrezine or levocetrezine would provide relief from tthe symptoms.
(4)-Nasal decongestants like xylometazoline in case of blocked nostrils.
(5)-Do steam inhalation twice a day for at least 20 minutes.
If symptoms persist despite all these, you have to consult an ENT physician and detailed evaluation may be needed. In that case a CT scan of your sinuses may be needed.
Look for caries teeth which can cause recurrent attacks of sinusitis.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.

Regards.
Dr.Shinas
